Highworth Bellringers
About Highworth Bell Ringing
The bitter-sweet sound of just one bell or the majesty of a whole peal, has become part of the English heritage and much of the country’s history can be traced through the history of its bells.
They call us to wake, to pray, to work, to arms, to feast and, in times of crisis, to come together. Above all, bells are the sound of freedom and peace as in World War II they hung silently until the day they could ring in the peace.
Bells that still hang in the tower of st Michaels have been calling people of Highworth for almost three centuries. The Tower contains a ring of eight full circle ringing bells in a low sided Cast Iron Bell frame. The bell ringers ring regularly on Sundays from 9.45am to 10.15am, before the morning service.
They also ring for weddings and special events in the town and around the world. If you are interested in bell ringing and would like to visit to see what it is about you will be more than welcome. Please contact the church office.
