About The Arts Society Upper Thames
We are a small but very friendly, welcoming and active Society. Founded forty years ago by the late Kay Melvin and a group of friends. The Society began its life in Highworth, but we now meet at a new venue in Lechlade. Our Members are drawn from an area covering the Thames Valley from Burford in the north to Swindon in the south and from Cirencester in the west to Wantage in the east. The Society is part of the West Mercia Region of the Arts Society.
Our objective, through lectures, visits, study days, holidays and volunteering, is to broaden our knowledge and enjoyment of the decorative and visual arts. At illustrated monthly lectures we hear experts, usually selected from a directory maintained by The Arts Society, speak on a huge variety of topics: music, architecture, artistic schools, porcelain, garden design, the lives of individual artists, jewellery ... and much, much more, ranging in time from prehistory to the present day.
We welcome visitors to our lectures and it is an excellent way to get a taste of what we do before joining as a member. You may attend as a Visitor up to three times in any Programme Year (September to June).
